Desktop Save/Restore

Just downloaded the Desktop Save/Restore and it is not working on my PC, WIN/XP Home Edition. After arranging my desktop icons the way I want them, I rebooted my PC and it reverted back to the WIN/XP arrangement. I tried several times re-arranging desktop icons, reboots, and restarts without any success. Sometime ago, the MBR on my C:drive got clobbered and I used a recovery software to copy the C:drive to my alternate drive. To keep it short, the alternate drive is my F:drive (??) and have been using it this way ever since. If Desktop Save/Restore relies on the C:drive, it probably does not recognize the alternate drive address, then maybe this is my problem. Is there a solution to this situation??

Desktop Restore does not rely on C:\ drive. Your message is somewhat confusing -- in no place did you indicate that you saved your icon positions or attempted to restore them -- only that you rearranged them?

Yes, I did save after re-arranging. I just repeated the whole process, re-arranging the desktop icons, saving it, and re-booting the PC. The desktop icons came up with the usual Windows desktop setting. I unchecked the Auto Arrange and Auto Grid, then restored the icon settings. voila, it worked. Never tried these settings before and maybe this is a feature in WIN/XP without additional software.

Yeah, you have to uncheck Auto Arrange. If you don't Windows will just override anything else you try to do. The installed readme specifically states this. However, if just unchecking those settings worked to remember the layouts, I would have had no reason to write this freeware.
