 I can't even tell you how many years of frustration I have suffered through with Windows or other programs (usually games) randomly rearranging my desktop.
I am an admitted icon hog and I use my desktop the way most people use the Start Menu. Actually, I rarely resort to using my Start Menu. I add everything I access regularly to my desktop and have it organized by type - System Utilities, Internet browsers, Music / Video Utilities, Games (by genre), etc. I currently have about 130 icons on my desktop. Consequently, when it is "reorganized" by some other program, it's a real chore to put it back the way I like it.
The best method I have come up with on my own is to take & save a new screen shot every few days and refer to it to put everything back - better than starting from scratch, but still very time-consuming. So, my happiness at discovering Desktop Restore is hard to even measure.
