FireMidiInput and DivertMidiInput have no effect?

I see these properties set to 1 in the example scripts, but if I zero them out, the script still work as expected. In fact I don't need to set them at all in my scripts and everything still works.
 
So can someone explain what these two properties do?

They only apply to the 'trigger' method of MIDI input (i.e. not polling).  Look in the Help file under scripting for more info.
