Need more than 8 ports

Hello, I have a Pentium 4 PC (HT disabled) with WXP SP1, Cubase SX. and EnergyXT. No external sound modules. I have 6 midi controller keyboards (out: channel 1) inputted to the USB MidiSport 8x8/s. I also have Midi Yoke 1.71 installed and Midi Ox 7.0.0.365 I use 6 ins from the Midisport and one out and six ins, in Cubase though it shows as Input port MidiYoke NT 7 to Output Ports MidiYoke NT 1 thru 6 in the Mid-Ox program. I know it is a little confusing but all works well. Thanks and I plan to contribute some funds to thank the developers. So out of a total of 16 ins and 16 outs I am using 12 ins and one out. Question: I need 6 more midi in ports and 6 more midi out ports to improve my setup midi routing. So in essence all I need is 4 more MidiYoke NT ins port. Is there a way around the 8 ports offered by Midi Yoke? Please note below (not sure how relevant this is) Cubase SX sees all the real and emulated ports. Moved the ignoreportfilter to the Cubase directory, so resolve the midi interface/Cubase SX problem. I de-activated all MidiSport and Mid Yoke emulated ports. Please help me get more ports.

Because of the architecture of Windows XP (and 2000) the MIDI Yoke NT driver is hard-coded to 8 ports. However you could get another 3 virtual ports by installing the Maple drivers in addition to MIDI Yoke.

Hello Jamie, Thanks for the speedy reply. Not clear that if I am limited to 8 ports how can I get three more with the Maple drivers? Each Midi interface like the MidiSport 8x8 or Midi-Yoke each is only allowed 8 ports? If I had two interfaces would I be allowed 16 total ports? Sorry for these questions which really show my ignorance of midi.

You can have multiple MIDI drivers installed in Windows XP (up to 10 drivers). Each driver can target a variable number of Ports. MIDI Yoke (1 driver) supports 8 virtual ports, MIDI Sport 8x8 (1 driver) supports 8 hardware ports. Maple drivers (1 driver) supports 3 virtual ports. If you had all of them it would be 3 drivers, 11 virtual ports, and 8 hardware ports. You would see 11 + 8 = 19 ports in the MIDI-OX Devices configuration.

This is a minor point, but I believe that Maple drivers support 4 virtual ports, not 3. Am I missing something?
