Peavey StudioMix and Live4

I'm a total noob with midi-ox, and I need help. I just got a Peavey StudioMix control surface incredibly cheap, which was designed to be used with Cakewalk. It uses NRPN to communiicate (I guess, this is new to me). I want to get it to work with Live4, which allows me to map nearly everything to a midi controller. My question is how do I do this? It seems to me that there should be an easy way to get the NRPN messages to be unique Midi messages and do all the mapping within Live4, but then again, I have no clue. Can someone explain this to me? I'm really looking for an easy solution, if possible. Thanks.

I'm looking at some studiomix's on the net. Can I use it with SONAR 2? And does it have phantom power. I read a review that said it does but someon selling one said it doesn't....

I too have been working with a Studiomix - trying to get it to work as a realtime MIDI controller for Csound. As mentioned, Studiomix runs completely on NRPNs, so I'm converting this to CC's and Notes On/Off. I've run into a single gotcha (all else is no problem). A number of NRPN messages I want to Discard. The simplest way to do this is to convert the ones I want to convert (this is working fine), then do an "all the rest" NRPN conversion that Discards - placing it at the end of the list. My "general Discard" consists of all input NRPN asterisks (for location and value range) plus Discard (output type). Instead of discarding, however, MIDIOx leaves an FF byte which translates as a System Reset. (This happens whether or not you wait for the fourth input byte or not.) Is this perhaps a known bug? Or what am I doing wrong? The _specific_ items I need to discard are for example an NRPN at 5004, which relates to a Studiomix button that sends 16383 when released (1 when pressed). I'm converting the keypress to a Note On just fine; but the 16383 at key release is leaving me with the FF System Reset byte mentioned. Any ideas on how to get rid of the spurious FF? Thanks much (this is _really_ bugging me!) Art Hunkins abhunkin@uncg.edu
