phat.boy midi controller trouble

Hello... First of all mega thanks to the developer for coding such cool apps for free; praise Im kind of new to midi so dont be amazed if i sound dumb. Ive bought a 2nd hand phat.boy (it sucks, i know) and this midi controller has predefined CCs... the 13 knobs are assigned from CC 01 to CC 13 respectively and this values cant be changed in the hardware. what i want to do, as you prolly already have guessed is to map this CCs to more standard values so i can use them with VSTi synths. But lame as i am i couldnt figure it out. ive seted up "edirol UM-1" (wich is my usb midi adaptor) as the midi input in midi-ox and selected "midi yoke NT:1" as my midi output. the data is passing ok from the controller to my vstis as i can tweak the modulation wheel of the vstis with knob 1 (CC 1). what i cant do is the maping itself. i assume that that is done in "midi data mapping tranforms" menu but still i cant do it. i guess this should be one of the most basic things midi-ox can do. ive used the search forum feature but i couldnt find an answer to my question. could someone please give me a pratical example on how can i assign knob 1 (CC 1) to CC 74 ? thanks in advance... Hugo Vinagre

Perhaps the simplest way is to modify an .oxm file you already have. Click on Options, then Data Mapping. Then Load, and select the Map folder. Load the "ChnAft To Expression.oxm" file. Its single line will already be selected (it's darkened); double-click to Edit it. Change the Input Event type to Ctrl, and the Min and Max Ctrl# to 1. Change the Output Min and Max Ctrl# to 74. Click OK and you have your map. It should like like this: * Ctrl 1 1 * * * Ctrl 74 74 * * If MAP is not already highlighted in your taskbar, click on it (to enable mapping). It sounds like your devices are set up correctly. If it all works as it should, don't forget to Save your new map. (Saving it will make it the default for when you next fire up MIDIOx.) I've a Phat Boy too; if you've any further problems, let me know. Art Hunkins abhunkin@uncg.edu
