ALTERNATIVE NOTE SOURCE

I would like to use an old Kawai K1 synthesiser as the source
for note-on/note-off information and somehow map it to
replace that produced by the internal "computer keyboards"
note-on/note-off info within Midi-ox.
The other messages, the chord functions etc. I would still
like to use in tandem and to select from the "computer keyboard". Is this possible?
I am using win98se and use a SB Live Soundcard.
I would be grateful for any response.
Thanks John Wright,GOOLWA, South Australia.

If I understand correctly, yes.  It wasn't clear what you will use to generate the actual sounds?  The K1?  If so, route your hardware MIDI Port (SB Live MIDI In) input to MIDI-OX input and route MIDI-OX Output to the SB Live MIDI Output (attched to the K1 Input).  As long as MIDI-OX is the active program, you can also turn on the Computer Keyboard and use it in conjunction with the K1.

Thank you for your prompt reply. Sorry to have been too vague. The midi data for the note-on/note-off will be produced
by the K1 and the actual sounds produced by the SB Live's Midi Synth.

Well, in that case there's a minor change:

Route your hardware MIDI Port (SB Live MIDI In) input to MIDI-OX input and route MIDI-OX Output to the SB Live MIDI Synth.

Jamie, I still don't understand but will attempt to describe
better what I have been doing. The K1 is connected via an Edirol UM1 patch cable to a usb port on my computer.
It shows up in the list of input and output devices as
expected. ALL input devices seen in the list are
  1. Edirol um1 midi
  2. SB Live! Midi In (C420)
  3. Roland MPU-401
  4. Midi Yoke Junction 1
  5. Midi Yoke Junction 2
  6. Midi Yoke Junction 3
Similarly ALL output devices listed are;
  1. Edirol um1 midi
  2. Creative S/W Synth
  3. A:SB Live! Midi Synth
  4. B:SB Live! Midi Synth
  5. SB Live! Midi Out (C422)
  6. Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth
  7. Roland MPU-401
  8. Midi Yoke Junction 1
  9. Midi Yoke Junction 2
  10. Midi Yoke Junction 3
  11. Midi Mapper
I selected 'Edirol um1 MIDI' from the INPUT List and
I selected 'A:SB Live! Midi Synth' from the OUTPUT List.

The Midi Port routing was as follows

  Input Ports       Output Ports
Edirol um1 MIDI---------------|-A:SB Live! MIDI Synth
       |----------|
MidiOx Event Port---|

and in the Port Mapping Window I obtained the following;

     - A:SB Live! MIDI Synth
    + MIDI-OX Events
    + 1. Edirol um1 MIDI

The effect of all of this was that I could play notes on BOTH the K1 keyboard or on the 'Midi-Ox keyboard' . I could set
new instrument sounds which were common to BOTH
keyboards. I could toggle the chord and arpeggio functions
which worked as expected with the Midi-Ox keyboard and had NO influence on the notes generated by the K1 keyboard.

As I would prefer to generate the notes on the K1 but use
the functionality of the 'Midi-Ox keyboard'.
I am missing something fudamental and probably quite simple,
but cannot 'see' what I have missed. Is it something to do
with SB Live! Midi In (C422)/SB Live! Midi Out (C422).

Thanking you for your help & patience with me.

The Chords and Arpeggios of the Computer Keyboard will ONLY work on that keyboard.  The reason is because the computer keyboard generates the Notes and Chords.  However, you can use the computer keyboard to change patches on the SB Synth as well as other MIDI parameters.
