midi note number confusion?

Greetings to a WONDERFUL forum and GIVE THANX for an even MORE WONDERFUL software.  I've used MIDI-OX for many years for really simple stuff like monitoring streams (BIG help for trouble-shooting) and sysex transfers, but now with recent upgrades to my keyboard rig, I'm looking at doing LOTS more with MIDI-OX, finally breaking into the mapping functions...

And I have discovered something which seems REALLY odd with the way my installation is behaving: when I play the lowest C on my controller, the input monitor tells me that I have played a midi note number 24, yet I find that in writing a data map I need to add an octave to address this key -- midi note number 36.  What gives?  How is it that MIDI-OX recognizes the note by one number for purposes of input monitoring and a different number for purposes of mapping?

24 is hexadecimal: 2 * 16 + 4 = 36

DOH!

it seems a little incongruous to have the display monitor provide readout in hex and then require input in dec, but I guess it makes sense somehow.  It sure would make life simpler if the data mapping filters also used hex...

As an alternative, you can have the monitors display Decimal:  Options -> Display -> Monitor Hex

If you uncheck it, it displays decimal.  -or- Right Click on the Monitor and choose: Display Decimal
