Patch Mapping - ?????

I've been trying to set up a patch mapping using the lower few keys to change to MIDI out to new channel. I've looked at everything I could find and can't get it to work.
Is there a link to step by step instructions for us new folks?

I read the section on it in the help file an' can't get it going. I can't find a manual anywhere, could you gimme a link to it?
