Simple Tutorial Needed (WMP to Monitor View)

I'm stuck. All I want to do is play a Standard MIDI file in Windows Media Player and view the data in the Monitor window. I play such files all the time and the output goes to a Lexicon Omega interface (via USB) and on to the target device via a MIDI cable. Works fine. Unfortunately, no matter what routings I try, nothing is showing up in the MIDI-OX Monitor windows. Maybe someone can supply a simple tutorial.

FWIW, I have used MIDI-OX a number of times in the past (and donated too!) without any difficulties. The system I used then was a similar XP machine with a MOTU MTPAV interface.

Thanks for any suggestions!

I do something similar but set up as follows:

use anvil studio to play the midi file, set the output of anvil studio to midiyoke 1, then in midiox route the midiyoke 1 in to roland sound canvas.
You have to feed the midi data through midi ox to be able to monitor it

I've never needed MIDI-YOKE in the past with my previous system. In that it's XP-compatibility isn't mentioned I'm reluctant to try it on my otherwise perfectly stable system. At one point I tried to insure there were no possible feedback paths and connected the MIDI-OUT to MIDI-IN (via MIDI cable on the Omega interface box) and view the output data on the MIDI-OX input monitor. This resulted in a "non-responding" MIDI-OX window and I had to restart the system to get the program to shut down. Odd that I'm having so much trouble now when in the past it seemed to work with very little or no adjustment to the settings.

As Midi Ox can't see what is being sent, only what is coming in, you need to direct what is going out back into the PC.

If you are using XP go to Control Panel and start 'Sounds and Audio Devices'
On the Audio tab of the dialog that pops up, the third section at the button is 'MIDI Music Playback'

Select your Midi interface instead of 'Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth' and click OK

Disconnect all hardware Midi connections.
Make sure nothing (Midi-Ox, software , DAW or the Lexicon) is echoing the Midi Input data coming in to the Midi Output.

Although you won't damage anything, be ready to pull one of the Midi plugs to break the loop if it happens.

Start Midi-Ox
Now connect a physical cable as below

Media Player -> MidiOut1 -> ----  Cable----  -> MidiIn1 -> MidiOx

Start the Player.
Although there isn't any sound, the Midi will be displayed on the Midi-Ox Monitor Input.

All the best
Royce
