Hello been having a mapping problem with the listed components: Yamaha SW1000XG and PLG-150AN Daughterboard. IN windows XP i CAN get it workling but in Win 98 I cannot. I really want to get the card working in a windows 98 machine. I think midi ox can help me but here is the problem first. With this configuration you have two cards and two sets of driver pages. One is called XG Edit 95 the other is called AN Advanced Editor. Both have midi in out selection within them. Theoretically the AN Expert editor should work standalone but i cannot get it to work without running both programs. It will work in this dual operation in XP and wont work at all in 98. First the Windows XP Setup XG Edit Midi In as - (Keyboard Source in my case Soundblaster Live) (I am using the joystick port for midi in) Midi Out as - Sw1000XG Synthesizer 1 this seems to address the daughterboard AN synth. AN Expert Editor Midi In - Sw1000 IN Midi Out - Sw1000XG Synthesiser 1 If I configure both programs with this midi in / out setup and also have them both running then in win XP it works okay. If i try and run AN editor alone then it receives midi note on okay but for some reason doesnt get note off. However, although its a bit quirky it works in XP. Windows 98 I set the Ins / Outs the same ie: XG Edit Midi In - Soundblaster Live Midi Out - Sw1000XG Synthesizer 1 AN Expert Editor Midi In - Sw1000 IN Midi Out - Sw1000XG Synthesiser 1 The problem is in win 98 it wont allow me to have both midi outs set to Synthesiser 1. I can install it in one of the apps then on the second when i try and install it then sais: "Failed to open Midi Out Driver" I think I can fix this problem with midi OX but at the moment I am a bit of a newb with this program. so unsure what to do? any suggestions massively appreciated.

It looks like the problem is that the Win98 Midi drivers are not multi client. I am assuming that you just want to use the software editor and hear the sounds by playing notes into the SB Midi port. So you need to merge the SB input with the output coming for the editor. Install MidiYoke. AN Expert Editor Midi In - Sw1000 IN Midi Out - MidiYoke 1 SB Midi In -> MidiOx -> Sw1000XG Synthesizer 1 MidiYoke 1 -> MidiOx -> Sw1000XG Synthesizer 1 In the Midi port Routing window (under View) left click and drag the Input Port to the Output Port to make a connection ( "-> MidiOx -> "). You shouldn't have to run XG Edit, but if you still want to XG Edit Midi In - (not needed) Midi Out - MidiYoke 2 SB Midi In -> MidiOx -> Sw1000XG Synthesizer 1 MidiYoke 1 -> MidiOx -> Sw1000XG Synthesizer 1 MidiYoke 2 -> MidiOx -> Sw1000XG Synthesizer 1 All the best Royce
