Help needed in down loading sys-ex file

Hi all,

I am a new user. I have no experience with midi-ox and find the program  overwhelming as I don't even know the definitions of the symbols along the top of the page. I'm trying to load an sys-ex file of drum beats in to a alesis SR 16 drummer. I have the usb to midi patch cord and instructions I downloaded off of internet, which seemed really easy to use, but in 20 to 30 tries can't get'er  done. I contacted alesis tech support and they can't figure it out as they say it always works. I even replaced the patch cord thinking that it may be bad. Does anyone there know how to help me in terms that I can understand as I am not a sound engineer. I know I have to plug the midi out into the in on the drummer and the  midi in to the out of the drummer. I opened what I think is the midi port icon and selected the midi-usb input and out put ports and clicked OK, I chose actions/send Sys-ex file. I selected the file I wanted and clicked open and the load bar went across while the patch cord in light flickered, but nothing down loaded into the drummer. Help!

Hi
You change the buffer size and/or slow down the sysex transmission
View / Sysex then Sysex /Configure - set output buffer size to 1024 and set Delay Between Buffers to 100 Milliseconds and put a check in the Delay after F7 and set it to 100 Milliseconds as well. Close the dialog and try again.

But I suspect your problem is the cheapo Midi-USB cable.
These devices use the free Microsoft driver and this driver has caused lots of problems for sysex dumps.

See if you are able to borrow another interface by a manufacturer like Roland, or Yamaha or Korg (all of mine are MidiSport by M-Audio and work perfectly) that have there own special MIDI driver.

If you are still having trouble write back as let us know and I'll see if I can help.

All the best
Royce
