I couldn't suss out what trouble you're having, but when using a joystick for a controller: I expect that the vmidijoy translates joystick movements into MIDI events. You then choose MIDI Yoke #N Out (#N = 1 to 8), as the MIDI device to send to. In the program you want the controller events to arrive in, you choose the same MIDI Yoke #N In as the input device.

hey jamie - i have run into a little prob. the "vmidijoy" software only has settings for "midi in channel" and "midi in port" there are no settings for "midi - out" does this mean i simply do the opposite of what you told me ? ie: set the midi yoke n# in -in tthe vmidijoy software and the midi yoke n# out - corresponding in the ableton software ? thanks hans

Yeah, they may call it MIDI In, but they probably mean a Virtual MIDI OUT port. Try it and see.
