Roland S-10 sends All Notes Off to XGWorks. Help!
« on: Feb 26th, 2007, 10:08pm »

I have XGWorks running my SWXG1000 card. I also have MIDI-OX and MIDI Yoke installed. MY OS is Windows 2000 Pro.

I'm trying to use a Roland S-10 keyboard to play the sounds on the card. The problem is that the S-10 sends an All Notes Off MIDI message when all the keys are released.

Is there a way to filter out this instruction using the software I have? I can't get my head around it. If anyone can describe how to this I'd be delighted; editing the event list is getting a bit tedious!
:-S

Any thoughts?

(Not sure why you posted this question about MIDI OX in "3rd Party" but anyway..!)

You need to set up a Data Mapping that has the All Notes Off MIDI message as the incoming message and "discard" as the outgoing.

Er, good point, neither am I! (blushes)

Yes, I've figured out that I need to set up a Data Mapping with All Notes Off set to Discard. I can do that.

The trouble is that I still can't visualise how to patch Midi-Ox and XGWorks together so that the Data Mapping is effective. Would I need to use MIDI Yoke as well?
:-S

I was rather hoping someone would explain, giving specific instructions, how I might get the job done. I've tried but I just get confused and disheartened.

Maybe I should just get rid of the S-10 and find a keyboard with better MIDI manners?

Not sure how you have the S-10 hooked to XGWorks now, but you can replace that connection with a single instance of MIDI-OX and a MIDI Yoke.  Connect the S10 to   input to MIDI-OX and select a MIDI Yoke port as Output.  In XGWorks select the same numbered MIDI Yoke port as Input.  Now all MIDI data will be filtered through MIDI-OX before it gets to XGWorks.

I've got the S-10 connected to the MIDI In socket of my SW1000XG. That's why I can't see how to get anything between the SW10000XG MIDI In and the onboard synths. I don't see how I could get anything (such as MIDI-OX) to see the S-10 first.

Nice looking Telecaster, by the way, Jamie!
It it your own guitar? I had a 70's model sunburst one for a while.

If I try to open XGWorks after MIDI-OX I get an XGWorks error message saying, "Failed to open MIDI Out Driver" and then one saying, "Failed to open MIDI In Driver".
If I open XGWorks first and then open MIDI-OX I get a MIDI-OX error message saying, "SW1000 MIDI IN: the specified device is already in use. Wait until it is free, and then try again.", followed by another saying, "SW1000 MIDI IN: the specified device is already in use. Wait until it is free, and then try again."

Beats me. Sad

Is it possible to separate the SWXG1000 MIDI Interface from the onboard SWXG Sounds?  I don't have one so I am just guessing here.  What you want to do (not sure you can?) is to connect the S10 to MIDI-OX: open MIDI-OX and select the SWXG1000 as Input, select MIDI Yoke 1 as Output.

Then in XGWorks, select MIDI Yoke 1 as Input and whatever (SWXG1000?) as Output.

Apparently the SWXG1000 MIDI Interface is not multi-client (although MIDI Yoke is).

Maybe you need to ask Yamaha for help... Sad

N.B.  The Tele is a picture of a model I have (52 reissue), but not the actual guitar Smiley
