Midi Yoke and patch editors

Hello

I've been trying to use Midi Yoke, via MidiOX, to provide a link between my PC patch editors (JSynthLib and RFX-2000ED) and the external devices... however when I set up Midi Yoke as the Midi In's and Out's for the editors (which link via MidiOX to the souncard middi in and out) no data seems to be transmitted... and they only respond if I specify directly the soundcard's midi ins and outs. Any idea why this may be happening and how it could be resolved?

So, you are trying to setup a multi-client situation using both Patch editors at once?  This can be done, but you may need to use more than one MIDI-OX instance.  It's actually possible with a single MIDI-OX instance, but the routing is more complex.

The idea is to connect one instance of MIDI-OX to the hardware MIDI Inputs, and the other instance of MIDI-OX to the hardware MIDI Outputs.  The first MIDI-OX instance then connects to a MIDI Yoke port (1) as output (and your hardware MIDI ports as input).  Your patch editors open MIDI Yoke 1 as Input, and MIDI Yoke 2 as Output (MIDI Yoke is multi-client).  The second MIDI-OX instance opens MIDI Yoke 2 as input and your hardware ports as output.  Now you should have a complete chain through the system and see the data going to and coming from the patch editors.  You can use this same configuration for a solitary patch editor application too.

I've tried setting up Midi Yoke and OX in this way but it doesn't work... when I send patch data from the editor through Midi Yoke no data is registered by Midi OX and no data is recieved by the synth/effects unit. With the Zoom RFX-2000 I can't even get it to recognise that Midi Yoke is connecting it to the hardware in and out.

To make sure that MIDI-OX and MIDI Yoke are operating as expected, take the editor out of the loop (initially).

Run 2 instances of MIDI-OX.  In the first, choose your hardware MIDI port as input, choose MIDI Yoke 1 as output.  In the 2nd, choose MIDI Yoke 1 as input, choose your hardware MIDI port as output.

Play notes on your keyboard or some controller, and see if they display in both monitors.  Do they also go out to your external gear?  If so, you can now try inserting one of the editors into the chain.  Wink
