M-Audio - XP Media Center problems

Tried to download an M-Audio input driver
but was warned that installation might trash my computer.
Bought an M-Audio USB/MIDI device (in & out)
but was warned that installation might trash my computer.

The M-Audio site states flatly that
Windows Media Center will not work with M-Audio products.
Windows says talk to HP.
HP says I just need the right drivers.

XP Media Center seems more like a couch potato's dream machine.
The things they do to help the consumer interfere with the creator
(small case!). Uninstalling XP Media Center and installing XP Home
is a daunting proposition. Is it worth doing?

I will be talking to:

BBW
M-Audio
HP
Windows

and share all results.

Plus checking out MIDI Ox/Yoke.
Can MIDI Ox/Yoke help here?

Thanks,

Erik Hansen
