Midi interface for Newbie - Help

Trying to hook up an old Casio keyboard to my XP Media Edition. Bought an M-Audio UNO, used MIDI-OX to verify it was working, but never got SoundForge or even Sound Recorder to recognize input. Struggled with M-Audio support people, replaced the sound card and then I discovered that ALL M-Audio products either do not function or have known conflicts with XP Media Edition according to info buried in their website, which their support people finally admitted. . Of course my computer mgfr SONY was also of no help and nothing in MS supportbase to guide me.

Seems like it should be a simple hookup,. but apparently more complicated than I thought.  Any help would be incredibly appreciated.
