uninstall MidiYokeNT

Hi Y'all, I have been using MidiYokeNt with Andy Broughton's SendsOnFaders software add-on to Yamaha's software for controlling their digital audio mixers. I am trying to update the Yamaha software on my two laptops. One is running 32 bit Windows XP, the other 64 bit Windows 7 Pro. When trying to install the Yamaha DME Network Driver, I get the following error message: "An additional MIDI driver cannot be installed on the computer. Please remove any unused MIDI drivers, and try again." According to Andy, the DME Network driver and other Yamaha software have to be up and running correctly before installing MidiYokeNT and his SendsOnFaders software. I tried to un-install MidiYokeNT, but don't know if I have been successful. Or if there is some other Midi issue with both computers... Any help would be appreciated! Thanks and good health, Weogo Reed

See the FAQ about the 10 driver limit in XP. I am guessing MS has filled all the slots with its bogus driver entry (which can be removed).

Hi Jamie, On the Win-7 laptop, it turns out the main issue was in fact the firewall stopping the Yamaha DME network driver. I tried deleting the Win-XP MIDI Registry entries, but that laptop got flaky and I did a re-install. I have read that Win-XP actually has a limit of 32 MIDI ports and Windows-7 is unlimited, but haven't found anything definitive. Anyway, they are both working fine now, and I learned a bit about MIDI along the way. MIDI Yoke is great - couldn't use Andy's SOF without it! Thanks and good health, Weogo Reed

It's not the number of ports that is the issue, it's the number of drivers. Any driver can expose as many ports as it likes (of course, MIDI apps must support that number as well). The problem is that there are only 10 entries possible in Drivers32 reg key (MIDI - MIDI9). Stupid, stupid limit.

What's more fun is that every time you plug a USB MIDI interface into a new USB port, that loads another MIDI driver... So if you keep moving things around, you can quickly run out. I don't know if Windows automatically "kills off" unused drivers to make room: I have one left and I'm planning to give MIDI Yoke another try tomorrow!
