Midiox data - translation please?

I recently ran midiox on my Yamaha S30 synth which is constantly sending midi data without my help - it showed the following (excerpt):

# MIDI-OX Version: 6.4.1.306
# MIDI To Text Format - Opened: Sat 13-Oct-2001 13:16:16
# The first MIDI event received will initiate timestamps

 0000024D    1     E0    00    40    1   --  Pitch Bend

 000005C2    1     B0    0B    7E    1   --  CC: Expression
 000005D4    1     B0    0B    7F    1   --  CC: Expression
 00000621    1     E0    00    3E    1   --  Pitch Bend
 00000634    1     E0    00    40    1   --  Pitch Bend
 00000689    1     E0    00    3E    1   --  Pitch Bend
 0000069B    1     E0    00    40    1   --  Pitch Bend

Presumably this shouldn't be happening.  Does it look as if the damned thing needs to go back to the shop?  Can I filter these controllers out when recording to Cubase so it doesn't interfere with playing?  Not ideal though....

Has anyone got any ideas how I could fix this myself?

Thanks a lot.

That's interesting.  Expression 7F is 127 decimal which is maximum and 7E is one unit below that.  PitchBend 4000 is center (0000 is minimum and 7FFF is maximum).  The Synth is wiggling between these values.  Although it's probably not an audible change, you don't really want it to spew data all the time.

Is it possible the Pitch Wheel is getting jiggled?  Try manually jiggling it and see if the transmission ceases.  Do you have a slider for expression?  If so, try jiggling that too.

You could setup MIDI-OX to filter Bend and Expression (in a couple of ways), but then you wouldn't be able to transmit expression or bend.  Before you return the unit, try doing a factory reset on it.

Dear Jamie,

Thanks for your feedback.  I have done a factory reset and the sliders/wheels aren't being moved, so I guess it's back to the shop.

It isn't audible, but the fact that midi is constantly being sent seems to upset any other settings I try to make, which is annoying.

Well at least I've got some evidence for the repairers, thanks to Midiox!!  Wink

Cheers.
