Major MIDI delay problems!

Hi- I hope someone can help! I've had no luck resolving this with Yamaha or Cakewalk support. I'm having *major* MIDI problems. There's a delay of up to 9 seconds (not ms!) b/w when I press a key and hear the sound back while running SONAR. I'm using a Yamaha Motif 6 and an SBLive! CT4620 with SONAR 1.31. I realize the SB isn't the latest and greatest, but I typically need just 1 audio track, and it's been fine for that until now. Plus, audio doesn't seem to be a factor anyway -- I have the same problem with a midi-only file such as CANYON.MID. - I'm using the latest YAMAHA USB MIDI In/Out driver for Windows 2000 - MIDI OX indicates normal (?) MIDI In/Out as far as I can tell. - I can play CANYON.MID & play along with the Motif with no delays with just MIDI OX and the player open. - I've tried SONAR on a Windows 98SE machine & with Windows 2000, also with a dual-boot 98SE/2000 setup. - I've tried both standard MIDI and USB MIDI connections. - Motif Local On = Off - No other apps running Any suggestions would be most appreciated. Is there anything I should be able to tell from MIDI OX that might help? Thanks! Ralf

I don't have a Motif, but I do have a Yamaha UX256 USB interface, and an SBLive! Are you getting the delay with the SBLive! or the Motif? I think I actually experienced the same thing once, but it was only temporary and re-installing the latest drivers for each device cleared it up. I suspect one of the drivers was sending bad timestamps (into the future), causing the delay.

Hi- I have the MIDI delay problem in SONAR regardless of the MIDI connection (USB or standard). I've installed the drivers multiple times. I believe the Motif uses the Yamaha UX256 MIDI driver. - My SBLive! card is one of the early ones (CT4620). The audio seems fine in Win2k, but the only MIDI capability I have if I go standard rather than USB is MIDI UART, which I assume might be pretty lame. In fact, I can't hear MIDI output at all when I'm using the SB MIDI connection, although the Monitor Output window indicates it's receiving/transmitting data. I'm using the default Creative WDM driver that Win2k detected. With USB, I can at least hear the MIDI output. FWIW: - I re-installed SONAR and the 1.31 update. No improvement. - I can play along with CANYON.MID using FruityLoops with no delay (USB connection). - I can play along with CANYON.MID using MIDI OX with no delay (USB connection). Thanks for any help! Ralf

Try using the SB MIDI UART for the input MIDI Port in SONAR and the Yamaha MIDI Out, to see if that cures the latency problem. If so, it gives you an idea of which component needs updating. I haven't had any trouble using the SB MIDI port for both input and output: usually the output will work even if an IRQ conflict or other problem prevents the input port from working correctly. I'm not sure what you meant by "Standard" versus USB? I'm not familiar with the "Standard" connection -- what does it attach to?

The problem seems to be solved! I had to change my Win2k installation from ACPI to Standard PC in order to resolve IRQ conflicts. I *think* the problem was that the SBLive! card isn't ACPI-aware. Fingers crossed, but so far everything seems fine. What a relief! By "Standard" I just meant the regular MIDI in/out connections from the Motif to the SB as opposed to the USB MIDI connection b/w my Motif & PC. Thanks!
