I sure wish I could figure out why I can't send and receive. I followed you check list to check in and outs and expand etc. I keep getting errors "external error" can someone call me to figure this out? 1-262-513-2954 Mike

You have some kind of MIDI interface attached to the computer, right? What is it? You say you get errors -- when do these errors occur? Upon trying to Send or Receive?

Okay I have a SB live sound card. I have a midi cable hooked up to my vetta amplifier and the sound card. I have set up the suggested in's and out's and have set the buffers to the recommended on vettavile's website. Then I go into the vetta send the channel and nothing happens on the sysex o bytes transfered?

Make sure you have the MIDI cables setup correctly: the PC MIDI OUTPUT cable connects to the Vetta MIDI INPUT jack. The PC MIDI INPUT cable must be connected to the Vetta MIDI OUTPUT jack. Make sure you have Options | Pass SysEx checked in MIDI-OX. Even without the SysEx View open, you should see SysEx data come streaming through the MIDI-OX monitor when you initiate a dump from the Vetta.

I think its my sound card 5.1 SB Live. There is only one joystick port and the other's are 1.8" for speakers and mics etc. Does that mean that this is a out only on the the soundcard. Nathan Shane from vettaville says its a in and out combined. but you are saying I need a midi in and a seperate midi out on the soundcard right? Maybe that's the issue? I don't know how nathan gets sound from only the joystick being hooked up to the computer and the midi in or out on the vetta? I can download info from the computer say a patch to the vetta but not a patch from the vetta to the computer for backup? I probably will just buy an external sound blaster like the Extigy. That may make more sense since it has a midi in and a seperate midi out. Unless I'm to be putting my other joystick cable somewhere but where would it go. The joystick to the soundcard is a male but there is a female joystick cable left unplugged. Is that the right cable for this job? Help

Years ago Creative Labs figured out how to combine a MIDI Interface with the joystick port. It's not just a game port, but also part of a MIDI interface. The other part of the MIDI interface is embedded in the cable that attaches to the game port. This is why they cost $25 typically. At one end is a standard gameport connecter and a gameport extender pass-thru. At the other end is usually two MIDI cables: A MIDI Input and a MIDI Output. The MIDI Output cable connects to an external MIDI Input, and vice versa. If I read your message correctly, it sounds like your cable only has one MIDI connector? That isn't right: you only need to get the proper Gameport/MIDI cable not a whole new soundcard. You can get these cables from Cakewalk or Voyetra or Creative Labs (~ $25).

I have one joystick male connector and one joystick female connector at the computer only the male can hook to the SB live 5.1. The midi in and out are hooked to the vetta so the cable is right. But my XP and SB Live value or regular version will not allow for midi-uart in the in port and for midi-uart in the out port in the devices section of Midi-ox. it allows me to put in midi-uart for the in but mp-401 for the out and then midi-ox says okay but nathan from vettaville says these should be the same. So i downloaded the latest driver for xp for the soundblaster hope that works. Keep me posted if you can figure anything else. Sincerely mike
