Basic midi device mapping question

I have a midiman 4x4 midi box where I have 3 keyboards plugged into the ins on ports B,C, & D. I have a Roland sc8850 hooked up to the out of port A. All of these show up in Midi OX. I want to map a keyboard to midiman to Roland ss8850 (sound Module), do I do that in Midi OX under options. I can map keyboard to the output of the midiman but how do I get it from there to the Roland as you can only have one output device in the window. WhenI put all of the inputs I got feedback loop. Do I need to install midi yoke as well? thanks Gary

You shouldn't need MIDI Yoke for performing the mapping you describe. You set up the routing in Options | MIDI Devices... If you don't have MIDI Yoke installed, there should be no chance of a feedback loop. You can choose as many of the Input and Output devices as necessary. In your case you would select Inputs B,C and D and Output A. Make sure that [x] Automatically attach Inputs to Outputs during Selection is checked (at the bottom of the MIDI Devices dialog), and then press OK.

I connected the inputs of BCD to the out of A, but I need to go from its out into th ein of a Roland SC8850. When I add the Roland in with the inputs of the Midiman and the out of channel A the screen that has what notes are played goes crazy and scrolls like its a madman. Should I not even be putting the input of the Roland it the mix? When the Roland is not in the mix the inputs of BCD to the output of A work fine and the black screen correctly identifies its channel and what notes. I do not have midiyoke installed. thanks Gary

I did some more experimentation and I should explain that the Roland sound canvas is connected to a usb hub that the Midiman is also connected to. When I unplug the usb out of the Roland and set its connection in the back from usb to midi all is well. I need the Roland set up that way so that it can talk to the software. Getting Closer Gary

Are you saying that the Roland SC8850 has it's own MIDI connection via a USB port? If so, you should see separate devices for the Roland SC8850 in the MIDI-OX Options | MIDI Devices... dialog. Not having one of these devices I have no idea, but if that's the case, you should just select that device as your output and remove any MIDI cables from the MIDIMan to the SC8850.

Wow , all is well. As soon as I disconnected the midi, set the Roland to USB, and selected the Roland in the midi out devices of Midi OX, bang it worked. My next question is my older devices such as my Juno2 does not show up directly. I was wondering if it was supposed to. Its output goes into the midiman and that works but it doesn't recognize it as the Juno2. thank you vey very much Gary Hostetler

Any device attached to an external port (MIDIMan port) will show up in Windows as the external port: there is no standard MIDI protocol to identify external devices. MIDI-OX allows you to customize the Port names, so you could rename your MIDIMan Port 1 to Juno2, for instance.
