Cubase, Midi-Ox ins, outs and save HELP!

Hello Midi-Ox-Experts,

I need help with ins and outs with Cubase
saving and mapping the key on the Maxi
294 key midi keyboard controller.
http://www.artmusicdance.com/maxi.htm

I use Cubase SX but can try it on Sonar.
I also have the Midisport 8x8 usb Midi interface.
I have no hardware modules
Only use VST and VSTi.

The drum map and Midi fx (mfx) do not work as the
editors show the original key not the mapped key. The
workaround is buggy. In any case the Xphazer
does not recognize the drum map setup.

There is no way that the input transformer can remap 127 key.

So now I believe that the midi ox can create a 127 midi key map
which then I can re-map as desired. So I need to input the 6
midi outs from the MidiSport into midi-ox, remap the keys and then
out to Cubase. Is this possible. How is it done?

Will I then be able to save the maps and when I reopen
the Cubase project the map I had saved will be operational?

Thanks for any help that you can offer.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The details:

I made a 294 key two dimensional midi keyboard. It is 29” wide X
24” deep. This was the start of my problems!

The Maxi is composed of 6 modified 49 key midi keyboard controllers.
Each segment has 25 front and 24 back white keys of which none are
raised. The keys have been shortened. The octave range can vary and
a method for marking the octaves has been implemented. Because I
want to have many octaves in the 49 key range I will limit my
octaves from a low 5 keys to a high 10 Keys per octave.

The six midi outs from the keyboards are inputted into the USB
MidiSport 8X8 inputs. I will put each of the six segments on a port
one through six. Each port will be on a separate track and will play
a different VST instrument. Each VSTi may need a separate key map.
I need to map the keys on one keyboard to my specifications and copy
the map to the other five, so that all six 49 key keyboards are
mapped the same or may decide to have each VSTi mapped differently.

One partial map: (On the left is the midi keyboard key number and the
right is the key number I want heard and displayed on all the
editors)
36=24
37=26 (These notes have to be duplicated)
38=26 (These notes have to be duplicated)
39=28
40=29
41=31
…………………..
82=93
83=95
84=96

This mapping is easy to do in Logic which I want to avoid as they no
longer support the Windows/PC version. Cubase unfortunately does
not provide for midi key mapping only drum mapping which creates
some problems.

I also had considered Sonar but CAL as wonderful as it is, unfortunately
only edits midi after it has been recorded.

Please offer suggestions.

Yes you can do this.  You'll need to install the MIDI Yoke NT (for Win XP -- MIDI Yoke for Win 9x) driver.  This driver will transmit MIDI data from MIDI-OX to Cubase.  You can setup each map in the MIDI-OX Options | Data Mapping... dialog and then save it to disk.  Then each map can be assigned to a different input - output port configuration (in the Routing Window).  By default MIDI-OX will reload its last configuration at startup.  If this is not sufficient, you can save MIDI-OX profiles to later load a specific configuration.

Hello Jamie,

Thanks for the prompt reply.

I use cubase SX2. Each project will requiere 6 maps,
most of the time the maps will be identical. Each project
however may require new maps but often may rely on previously saved maps.

I would like to autamataclly save the midi-ox setups so when I re-open the project the correct map is loaded. How can this be done? Hope this in not compicated.   Grin

Look at File | Save Profile... and of course Load Profile....  You can also load a saved profile from the command line.

Example:

MIDIOX c:\myfolder\myprofile.ini
