Can't select Firewire 410 MIDI In

Hello Jamie,

When I try to select the MIDI in port of my M-Audio Firewire 410 in MidiOx v7, I get the following dialog:

M-Audio FW 410 MIDI: This function is not supported. Use the Capabilities function to determine which functions and messages the driver supports. <OK>

Not sure what this means, and I can't find a reference to a "capabilities" function in the MidiOx help. Is this a problem with MidiOx, the M-Audio driver, or both? BTW MidiOx lets me select and map the 410's MIDI output port just fine. Also my M-Audio USB MIDI interface works fine.

I'm bummed since I need to use this MIDI in port in my live rig.Cry Any help you could offer would be appreciated.

Thanks,

- Steve

This is the 1st we've heard of that one.  Does the message appear after you press [OK]?   I assume it's a message from Windows MME subsystem -- try looking in the _MOXBOOT.TXT file that is created each time you open or close MIDI-OX devices.   I suspect a driver or hardware problem, but check with M-Audio.

Hi Jamie,

The problem seems to have gone away. I'm not sure what it was, but it had definitely persisted across several reboots. Anyway I deleted all my _MOXBOOT.TXT files., and now when I start MidiOx before any other audio/midi programs, things work fine. I'm suspecting some other program or soundfile is tne culprit, but I haven't pinpointed it yet. Perhaps it was also caused by running some other  program without the 410 attached.

Yes, the problem occured the moment I clicked [OK].

Thanks for the help,

Update: Like Steve I deleted the _MOXBOOT.TXT file. And Midiox is now seeing the M Audio Firewire 410 although I have to open it as the first program, it won't do it after I've opened Cubase SL3.

However something wierd's going on with the Cubase: once I've done a Sysex transfer - the Midi channels are cross referencing i.e. VST instrument tracks assigned to Kontact 'out', play when I'm on the midi track for which I've transfered from the JV1080 - a piano in this case. I click up and down the tracks for a bit and the problem seems to stop -I get the correct individual sound coming from the correct track. Is there a reason for this?

Also the JV1080 piano usually transfers with a portamento effect attached which wasn't there in the beginging. I do another transfer and its gone. Any scientific cause for this that can be explained in laymen's terms. Can I filter this out in MidiOx?

Q: Do I have to use the Midiox Yoke drivers? I've installed them as a matter of course but not sure if its the right thing to do.

Any assistance appreciated.

I think deleting _MOXBOOT.TXT is a red herring: this file is overwritten each time MIDI-OX is launched and is a log that displays the result of opening each MIDI driver.  It is only a debugging tool to help you understand problems in your system.
