"Yoke 1 failed to close properly last time...

..do you want to open it ?" Yoke 1 and 4 are launched at windows xp startup. I've been getting this sort of message (not the exact wording but similar) quite commonly on my DAW for ages. I've basically ignored it and said "yes" and everything seems to work fine. However recently I've been having some mid-related issues with FLS 5.02 (http://www.midiox.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=query;action=display;nu m=1110152953) ..I've solved this (it was FLS related). However everytime I launch FLS the Midi Settings window opens - a sign of midi connection / conflict apparently (according to Image-Line). Is is likely related to the occasional message I get with Midi Ox ? What is the likely of the MidiOx error window and is it serious ? thanks swayzak

MIDI-OX sets a flag and writes to a log immediately before and after opening or closing devices. It later uses this information to decide whether to warn or inform the user about an earlier Opening/Closing problem. If you're always running MIDI-OX in the system tray, there's likely not enough time for MIDI-OX and devices to close when Windows is shutting down. Thus the message. You could prevent the messages by deleting _MOXBOOT.TXT before launch, but sometimes it might be useful to look in the log to see what failed.

| Jamie I deleted both the log and moxboot file but still get the messages on boot up (unsurprisingly as presumably MidiOx creates these each time it launches). I've got to the stage in my setup where I have 5 Midi yokes launching at startup - this may appear excessive but it is the most reliable & flexible way to have all of my midi inputs available to software applications. Solid as a rock once running (unlike when I have all the hardware inputs available !) I've never had a midi related problem after the 1000s of times I've had to close the warning boxes. Is there some sort of tweak I can do whereby this is bypassed ? thanks swayzak

Why not open the .LOG and see what it is that is causing MIDI-OX to display this message?

| I did but couldn't see anything obvious. I'll have another look (it appears for 3 or 4 out of the instances that launch at startup).

If it says MIDI Yoke 1 failed to close properly, then that is the situation we discussed earlier: the system shut down before MIDI-OX had a chance to completely shut down. You can work around this issue by emptying the log file, save it, and then make it read only.
