HELP!! Korg Wavestation EX - Newbie

Help.  I have Korg Wavestation EX keyboard.  Internal battery went dead (I replaced it), but I lost the 2 RAM banks of info.  Korg emailed me the files.  Here's the instructions Korgs sent me with the files:

[Korg instructions:  *** Protocol for SySex Files ***

The  files you have  downloaded are  System Exclusive  information.  These files  have been saved in  a Standard  MIDI file format. This will enable you  to  transfer  the  information  via  any  software sequencer or outboard synthesizer that can read SySex in a Standard
MIDI  file.  Please  contact respective  companies for  information regarding whether your software/hardware has this capability.

Transferring  these files  is as easy as playing the SMF.  However, settings do have  to  be made in  the respective  Korg  products to allow the information to get received correctly:

Under GLOBAL   - Make sure that the Memory Protect Internal is OFF
Under MIDI     - Make sure that Mode is OMNI
  - Make sure that the Basic Channel is 1
  - Make sure that Parameters is set to RECOGNIZE

Once this is accomplised, simply connect a MIDI cable from the  OUT of  the  sending  sequencer  to  the in of the  KORG unit  and playthe file.  On  the  WS  series, you  will be promted  that info  is being received. On the M series, you will not notice a change until you  select  a  progam/combi  other  than  the one on screen,  then switch back (The screen  doesn't  update  until  you  select  a new
sound).

Enjoy! [End of Korg instructions]

I have a new Dell PC (with Windows Vista).  I attached a USB/MIDI cable (brand name Midisport Uno).  I followed instructions and "played" the Korg files, but nothing seemed to transfer to the Wavestation EX.  (I even tried to open the files using Midi-ox software, but could not locate the files using Midi-Ox.  Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.  Thanks, Wally.

MIDI OX itself doesn't handle SMF (.MID) files.  It can handle SysEx messages, saved in .syx files.

I still don't understand why manufacturers don't provide SysEx utilities with the timing set to suit their hardware.  A modern PC will stream a SysEx message down a MIDI cable at full MIDI data rate.  Many MIDI devices -- even, it seems, "modern" ones -- can't take it.

You may need to "play" the MIDI file into MIDI OX (using MIDI Yoke to connect the two).  Then use MIDI OX to send the file, as it can be told to slow down.
