Midi input not working, undefined external error

Greetings,
I get no input from my usb midi controller. When I select it in MIDI-OX Midi Devices I get the error

Code:

---------------------------
MIDI-OX
---------------------------
CME UF: Undefined external error.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

The driver installs fine and it shows up in the device list, The controller works on my other computer, so there is no problem with it (it is also brand new).
I tried to get a midi interface working a while ago, and on recommendation installed a generic driver for it, could that have broken something?
I have uninstalled all unused drivers.

This is on Windows 7 64 bit.

Please help!

Edit:
Here is some more detailed info.
I had this midi interface (crappy cheap one), and tried to get it working on Win 7 64bit following these instructions: http://www.blindskunk.com/windows7_viewcon_usb_midi_drivers.html

When I couldn't get it to work, I gave up and bought a E-MU midi1x1. But now that wasn't working either (it works on my other machine so the interface is ok).

The E-MU gives the same error in MIDI-OX when selected under MIDI Devices:

Code:

---------------------------
MIDI-OX
---------------------------
E-MU XMidi1X1 Tab: Undefined external error.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

And now my new midi controller has the same problem. So I think there is something left behind, or something broken from that first driver installation.

There are lots and lots of hits on midi issues on google, and I just can't find any info on this problem.
There seems to be a lot of technical knowledge on these forums, if anyone has any info on how to troubleshoot this I would be very grateful! I must get this working!!

If not, do you know some other forum or resource where I could get help?

Thanks!

I have this same problem and have been trying to get my Axiom Pro 61 keyboard controller to work with Pro Tools 10 (in early February I purchased as a cross grade from Pro Tools 9MPowered - of which I purchased the Axiom last April in hopes of it working straight out of the box - which was advertised to work with PT 9MP - not the case, only the M-Audio interface which included the software is supported.)   Now, after a month of messing around with MIDI Setup Prefs - I am still unable to get the controller recognized.  M-Audio pointed me to this site and I am receiving the "Undefined External Error" message.

Please Help!  I have contacted the manufacturer of my laptop (ASUS) in hopes that they know of any conflicts that their own OS - installed on my U52F Notebook - might be causing.

Any Ideas from the Pros HereHuh  Many Thanks from my home studio!!!  John   Huh
