CAn't get MTC output

I am new to MIDI OX. I have a USB-to-MIDI converter connected to my PC that appears to work just fine. I need to generate MIDI Time Code. When I run MIDI OX, and start the Midi Time Code generator running, I get a steady MIDI Out light on the interface but nothing comes out the MIDI cable. Even an oscilloscope shows no activity on the output at all. I don't understand how it can run on the screen, the light lights up on the interface, but zero output. I am totally confused by the MIDI Devices screen, but I have the MIDI SPort Uno in the Port mapping area. Has anyone got any advice? All I want to do is get a tream of MIDI timecode out of this MIDI cable!

Thanks in advance for any advice!

All I can think is you could check the cable's device driver isn't suppressing the messages.  The light may just mean it's getting data from the host, not that it's sending it down the cable.

Also, do double check you're testing the MIDI Out cable and check which pins, in case you've got them mirrored.  (I'm sure you'll have done that already! Smiley )

(I've been using MIDI OX 8 years and I still have to think carefully in the MIDI Devices screen... and turn off the "Automatically..." checkbox...)

I have tried everything. The MIDI OX Outpout Monitor shows streaming MIDI TC, and the MIDI Port Activity window shows MIDI TC happening on the output port, and the LED on the MIDISPORT Uno lights up - but nothing out on the cable.

This is about as frustrating as anything I have ever had to do.

To pin this down to the cable, can you try two things:

Test one - check MIDI OX:
1) Get MIDI Yoke installed.
2) In Devices, connect  Yoke 1 output to Yoke 2 input.
3) For now, deselect all other devices.
4) Try the MTC generator again - you should see the output window show the messages out to Yoke 1 and the input window show the message in from Yoke 2.

If that's not working, there's something going wrong before data leaves MIDI OX -- but this is not expected given what you've said.

Test two - test cable test:
1) In Devices select the cable's in and out but don't connect anything (except MIDI OX Events to the out)
2) Get a MIDI loop back cable connected between the USB cable's out and in connectors.  I would avoid using any normal device as they can filter MTC - a proper loop back cable should pass everything.
3) Try the MTC generator once more.  Again, you should see the output window show the messages out and the input window show the message in.

This is where we're expecting to see things not working.

In this case, it must be the USB cable itself.  If the device driver and manual are no help, you'll need to contact the manufacturer.
