those el cheapo usb interfaces are notorious for failing with sysex data sadly. They weill handle midi notes cc messages ook but they just lock up with sysex.

4x4uk is right. It seems the Microsoft driver is the problem. The cheap interfaces don't write their own drivers and just rely on MS buggy driver that screws up if it get a sysex message longer than 256 bytes and this occurs particularly with older synths. Unfortunately MS's demonstrating code for Midi drivers has this same bug. Behringer looks like it copied it when it made its universal USB driver as it suffers the same problem. The Roland ones seem good although all my are M-Audio Midisport. Curiously, Midi-ox started life as a Midi demo program from Microsoft that never worked. For years and various versions of MS C and C++ the faulty example was presented as the way to write Midi code. Jamie stepped up fixed it and then kept going until you have Midi-ox. All the best Royce
