Yamaha UX16 and Windows 7

Hello, I just bought a Yamaha PSR-E233 keyboard which connects (MIDI in and MIDI out) to my Windows 7 laptop via a Yamaha UX16 usb-MIDI cable. Yamaha USB-MIDI driver V3.1.2 installs. Test note plays to the keyboard so I think all the hardware and software is set correctly. But MIDI files (currently opening with Windows Media Player), don't play to the keyboard. Yamaha tech support now tells me that the Yamaha stuff I just bought doesn't work in Windows 7. Of course Win 7 has been around since October 2009... They suggest I get the free player MIDI BAR from MIDOX website. So.... here I am but I can't find MIDI BAR. Haven't downloaded MIDIOX or MIDIYOKE yet... thought I would get some direction before flaying away with software that maybe doesn't do what I need anyway.... Thanks for your help. Steve

Hi Steve Midibar is part of MidiOx. MidiOx menu... Actions/Play MIDI up pops midibar In the Midibar menu click the Circle button (2nd on the left) and select your Midi interface. As far as the Media Player is concerned you probably need to change the default Midi device. To do it on XP "Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices" then the "Audio" tab and then "MIDI music playback" drop down box to select your Midi interface. But from Vista on this was removed and you have to edit the Registry (I couldn't believe this when I read it). What were MS thinking? Here is some help to do it... http://pcaudiohelp.com/how-to-change-the-default-midi-device-in-vista-an d-window-7/ All the best Royce
