Trouble sending SysEx file

Hi I'm new to the forum and a newbie when it comes to MIDI. I have a Johnson Millenniun 150 guitar amp and I am trying to send user presets (SysEx file) from a Windows XP computer to the amp. I have downloaded the MIDI-OX software and have the computer connected to the amp with a USB - MIDI cable, IN on cable to OUT on amp, and OUT on cable to IN on amp. When I first connected the cable to the computer it successfully loaded a driver. The cable has 3 lights, red for power (that's working), yellow for data transfer (that blinks when I send the SysEx file) but then I seem to have a problem. The file never "loads" to the amp and the green light never comes on? The amp is on channel 1 for MIDI send and receive, the MIDO-OX is defaulted to all 16 channels. I've tried to slow the data from 256 to 128 and that didn't help. I also tried to do a manual dump (not sure if that was even correct) and that didn't work. I will get the screen that shows the number of bytes received and it is always zero. I have not downloaded the MIDI-Yoke, do I need to do this? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've tried to provide everything I've done but if you need more information let me know. Thanks in advance

| This tells me that the Midi interface uses the Microsoft driver which is faulty because it limits the size of the sysex you can send. | I'm afraid that these 'cheap' interfaces have caused many people grief. me included. Quote: The file never "loads" to the amp and the green light never comes on? |
| You seem to have set it up correctly. See if you can borrow another Midi interface that has its own driver disk (or download the latest from the web). Try Roland, Korg, Yamaha or M-Audio's MidiSport. The Behringer ones could also be OK. All the best Royce

Royce, thanks for the reply. From reading a lot of the posts here and elsewhere on the web I figured I might have an issue with the drivers and the interface (it is a cheap one ordered on eBay). I ordered an M-Audio Midisport and it is scheduled to arrive tomorrow. I'll post how I make out after trying it tomorrow night. Thanks again. Scott

I have a couple of Midisport interfaces and they work well. There were some problems with the 'Uno', but as I recall they were fixed with new drivers that are available on the Avid/M-Audio website. Al the best Royce

Well I received the M-Audio Midisport 1x1 today, downloaded the drivers, went to the website for latest drivers, downloaded them and hooked up to my PC and my amp, launched MIDIOX and what do you know the file transferred with no issue. Thanks for the advice, word of caution to others trying to use cheap USB MIDI cables, it's not worth it.
