Hi Folks,

I have just joined the site this week and so I apologise if I have posted my question within the wrong section.  I had a look on here to see if this topic has already been discussed but could not find any.

I purchased a new PC last week (Dell Inspiron 3737 running Windows 8.1).  On my other laptop (for home use and running Windows 7) I have Midi-OX which I downloaded a couple of years ago. I am not sure if Midi-OX will run on Windows 8.1 though ?? Would anyone happen to know please ??

I can not see a Windows 8 download option on this site anywhere. I am hoping that someone on this forum will have some experience with it please.

Thanks very much indeed.

Best,

Paul Seaman

Hi Paul,
I don't run Win8 but there was a kind person that offered some help installing MidiYoke in Win8.
Have a look at this from Claire and see if it helps.
http://www.midiox.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=MYInstall;action=displa y;num=1374889053;start=1#1

There isn't a version that was specifically compiled for Win8 but it should work.
I would just try and install it.
You may need to have administrator permissions to do it.
You can always uninstall it if it doesn't work.

All the best
Royce

Thanks very much indeed Breath.

I really appreciate that.  And for Claire's helpful link.

Correct me if I am wrong here, but is there more that one download available ??  I think I originally downloaded one which was just called MIDI-OX, but are mentioning here MIDI-YOKE ??

Just want to be sure I download the correct one (as its been a couple of years ago since I firstly installed it on my Windows 7 PC).  Perhaps you might be kind enough to send me a link directly to it please ??

I am surprised that no other members have raised much discussion about this topic because I would have thought that a good few might have updated from Win7 to Win8.  And (as I am quite sure you have heard already), Windows 8 is massively (and annoyingly !!) different.

Kind regards,

Paul Seaman

Hi Paul
MixiOx is the Midi monitoring and filtering program and MidiYoke is a driver that lets you connect an internal Midi cable from one piece of software to another.

You will find the latest version here
http://www.midiox.com/

Even this version is a 32bit program but I thought it would have run under Windows 8 if it runs under Windows 7 .

As far as a new version of each operating system MS dreams up, Jamie is very busy programmer and I'm not sure that he has the time or inclination to keep updating his free program. But who knows perhaps he will.

As far as problems from other people afflicted with Win8 it seems that the OS is none too popular so perhaps not too many have taken it up.
The odd numbered Windows seem to be the ones to go for.
I might wait till there is Win9 or Win11.

All the best

Hi Breath,

Thanks very much indeed for your replies and links.

Is this the download I require :-

MIDI-OX 7.0 has been released:
Download: MIDI-OX 7.0.2

So (if that's the correct one), I install it and then I install the Midi-Yoke ??

Ta,

Hi Paul,
You seem a bit nervous about installing the program.

Unlike an iPad you can always uninstall if it doesn't work out for you and the uninstaller shouldn't leave anything on your computer.

My suggestion is that you install MidiOx, but I would only install Midi yoke if you find a need for it.

Just to confirm:  MIDI-OX will install and operate under Win 7, 8, and 8.1.  MIDI Yoke will also work (as a 32 bit driver only) under Win 7, 8 and 8.1 (x86 and x64), but it takes a bit of work to get it installed.  I hope to release a new installer soon.

Thanks Jamie,

Maybe I can live without the Midi Yoke at the moment.  Should I wait until you have created a new Driver Version ??

When you mention x64 and x86, are you referring to the Program Files (folder) which I have and is entitled 'x86' ??

I ask because I am still quite new to computers etc.

Ta,

Paul

I hope your problem had been solved. Recently I was unable to download windows 8 on my Dell laptop, then one of my friend suggested me to contact DELL hardware support and I found it every helpful.
