No received data displayed..Help Please!!

Hello All,

New poster here. I'm having some difficulty receiving patches(single or full dump) from a Yamaha SY22, hopefully someone here can help.

Patches sent from MIDI-OX to synth work fine, but it seems there is no traffic from synth to PC. Notes played on the synth are not even displayed on the PC screen. ESI ESP1010e soundcard tested using MIDIInterface test program, no problems there. Confirmed MIDI cable ok. Using Windows7.

Could I just be overlooking a setting somewhere? Any help would be very much appreciated

Hi,  check the driver software, Win7 32-bit or Win7 64-bit?

Hi Sonus,

Thanks for your message.
I've just mailed ESI so fingers crossed there. I'm using Windows7 64bit. I believe that some people have had issues with the Windows driver when receiving MIDI?
I'm new to MIDI-OX but if I can resolve the MIDI issue the program looks very useful indeed.

I'm not sure if this will fix this, but when I loaded Sysex into my SY22 I had to turn the midi ports off in Midi-Ox, and just leave sync in out on.

Hi Gadzook,

Thanks for your reply. No problem sending patches to SY22. The only problem is sending patches from the synth to PC. It's starting to look like a Windows 7 driver issue so still looking into that. Possible fix might be using a Roland MIDI to USB interface from the UM range.

Don't know if you have tried these SY22 patches yet, some are excellent.

A good idea to split audio and midi interface!
UM-ONE is stable, even with SY99 midi data.

Thanks Sonus,

Can I ask if you are using Windows 7 64 bit and have you tried backing up patches from your SY99 to PC through the UM-ONE?

Indeed, Win7 64-bit. Not only patches, also sample dumps.
Interface UM-ONE and UM-2G with midi-ox and elektron c6.

Hi,

Thanks Sonus and Gadzooks for the help.
Roland UM-ONE MK2 did the trick. SY22 transmitting and receiving single patch and full dumps on Win7 64bit

Hey SY22freak, I'm glad that you found a solution!

Thanks for the You Tube link I listened to the whole thing, there are some really great patches there! However, when I tried to download the zip file I got a error404 page not found.

Would you mind emailing me the zip file of the patches? My email is *@ymail.com.

I really dig the tones available in the SY22. It's the combination of the slightly dirty 12Bit samples mixed with the FM tones. I'd really appreciate having some extra patches.

Thanks a bunch, Gadzooks

Hey Gadzooks,

I've just visited the youtube site and tried downloading the zip file again..no problems. Maybe some glitch the first time you tried..

The SY22 was my first synth so I guess I have a soft spot for it. It still has some very fresh and useful sounding patches, especially when tweaked of course!

Thanks for the reply SY22freak. I will check it out again.

I bought a TG77 (rack of the SY77) used from eBay recently, it has some bad buttons so it needs to be sent to the shop. However I also bought a patches disc for it and it has SY22 patches on it. They aren't zips. Some are singles and some are all voice setups. Let me know if your interested - Zooks

Hi Gadzooks,

Sorry for late reply! Thanks for your offer of SY22 patches but I am still sifting through many patches as it is.

You may be interested in the SY22 editor at the link below(if you aren't familiar already). It comes with a large bank of patches and is very useful.
