Alesis DM10 Not Registering

Hey there, total beginner to all this and having some difficulties. I'm currently trying to optimize my DM10 Studio kit for Rock Band (also plan to use it for toontrack / addictive drums or something of the like) but can't get MIDI-OX to register any activity. I have a basic MIDI Out / In to USB cable connected and the appropriate input / output selected.

What am I missing here?

Hi
From the manual page 33
1.  Connect the module's USB port to your computer with a standard USB cable.

2.  Press UTILITY to access the module's Utility Menu.
3.  Press MIDI (F2) to access the MIDI settings.
4.  Press OUT (F3) to access the MIDI output settings.
5.  Use CURSOR UP / DOWN to move through the menu items and VALUE UP / DOWN or the VALUE DIAL to adjust the settings accordingly:
a.  Prog Chng: "SENT" (so the DM10 can send Program Change messages to the software).
b.  Clock Out: "SENT" (if you want the DM10's MIDI clock to the be the "master" clock) or "NOT SENT" (if you do not want the DM10 to send out MIDI clock information).
c.  MIDI Thru: "OFF."
6.  Set your software to receive MIDI messages from the DM10 module ("USB Audio Device").

I assume if you are using MidiOx you are using a PC.
The manual makes no mention of the driver for the USB Midi so it must use the one the operating system supplies.
So when you first plug in the USB, Windows should load the standard driver.

Select the device from Options/MidiDevices in MidiOx.
Select both the Midi In and Midi Out

View the Import Monitor and Port Routings as well as the Output Monitor in MidiOx.

Start playing....

Let me know if this sorts you out, otherwise tell me what version of Win you are using and exactly what you are trying to do.

All the best

That certainly helped, thanks (don't have the manual).

But is there a reason MIDI to USB isn't working when setup the same way? Currently trying to set it up for Rock Band and have a MIDI Out/In converter cable connecting the module to my PC (Windows 7 Ultimate x64). I can select the inputs, but it doesn't show any activity.

I also seem to be getting some sort of interference through the USB setup (lots of flangey sounds and a decent amount of crosstalk, both primarily in the cymbals). Is there a likely cause for this (am using a very basic and cheap usb cable)?

Firstly the flanging/phasing is probably due to the midi data coming back into the DM10 and the unit is playing the same sound but just a couple of milliseconds later.
Turn local off. It's on one of the Midi pages on the DM10.

Get the manual, it's online.
I don't have a DM10, I just Googled  it, went to the Alesis link and went to downloads or documents or some such thing.

Midi Interface....
Are you connecting Midi Out on the interface to Midi In on the Alesis and the reverse for the other cable?
Can you see the interface when you select Options/MidiDevices in MidiOx?

My guess is the DM10 is a better Midi interface than the cheap one you have, so why wouldn't you use that?

All the best
