Hi What do you mean by " i cant read the patch names on the screen" ? Is the text on the screen not visible? When you did a factory reset does everything work OK ? Can you see the names of the presets? Page 144 of the manual explains that you have to enable the reception of sysex data. While on page 144... Roland uses a device id in its sysex. It is like a sort of a Midi Channel number so you can chain together a number of similar modules but still speak to them independently. Your U-20's device Id needs to match the one written in the sysex. The easiest way is usually to look at the sysex in a hex editor. The first few bytes are F0 42 id The default is 17 (hex 10, so it would look like F0 42 10) and after a factory reset this is what yours should be now. If it is different change your machine's id. If this is all meaningless to you, just go to Edit/Setup/Midi/Common and change the Device Id (1 to 32) and try dumping the sysex with each change until it works. Then I suggest you save the sysex back to MidiOx after you have changed the Device Id to 17 . All the best Royce

If you have done a factory reset and you can see the patch names on the screen the you should be able to plug in some headphones and bring up the volume control and when you play you should hear some sound. If there isn't any sound then there is something faulty about your U-20 and you need to find a service technician to help you. Al the best Royce
