Send MIDI Commands through USB for Firmware Update

I'm trying to Update my Boomerang Rang III Phrase Sampler, I Need to send a MIDI file from my computer to the rang using a USB to MIDI interface. I've done it before, but can't do it now?? It seems I can send MIDI Keyboard commands and Sysex files through the output, but I can't send a midi file through the output? the MIDI player seems to be disconnected from the USB output. How can I send a MIDI file to the USB OUTPUT? Details: 1. I've already selected MIDI Devices. USB 2.0 Out as my output. 2. Can see when information goes from PC to USB out in a light in my interface. I have information going out when I enable Keyboard and play some notes, also sending Sysex files. But No information going out when I play the Firmware MIDI File. 3. The Right connection has been made between my rang III and the USB interface. 4. I don't think I want to try sending the MIDI file as sysex, if I do it wrong I could brick my pedal. Also, It takes over 8 minutes to complete the 30 sec MIDI file. I feel most of this is above my understanding, but bottomline. How can I send a MIDI File out a MIDI USB interface?

Sounds like you are doing everything correctly. Did you check that Options / Pass Sysex is ticked ? I have had some trouble with this in the past when starting MidiOx and it is already ticked. Although it is ticked it doesn't seem to work. The fix is easy. Left click it to deselect then left click again to select it. If you still have trouble, try this to see what is inside your Midi file. If don't have it already, install MidiYoke (from midiox.com) Start MidiOx and select the menu Options / Midi Devices... Select both the input and output of MidiYoke 1 Make sure you can see the Monitor Input (View / Input Monitor...) Start MidiOx's Midi player, MidiBar (red MB button on the tool bar) and select the output to MidiYoke 1. Load the Midi file into MB and press play. You should be able to see system exclusive messages flashing across the Input Monitor window. If you can't see any system exclusive messages then the file is faulty. If you can then the fault is either the USB interface or the cable (although you seem to be getting stuff out). Let me know how you get on. All the best Royce

Did you select MCI Port - USB interface - in MIDI-Bar? Version 3.4 has 1265 system exclusive messages: 63 x 1264 + 58 = 79690 bytes. It takes 33 seconds.

| That Fixed it! I overlooked it... grrr!! It's because on MCI I had two 4 different options: Mapper (default) GS wavetable Synth USB.2.0-MIDI MIDIOUT-USB.2.0 I had tried using MIDIOUT and it would give me an error message: "There are no MIDI devices installed in this system... etc" But using USB.2.0-MIDI actually sends the commands out. I thought I had tested both of them, but I guess I must have gotten it wrong. Thanks man. Also for reference. Explain those numbers you mentioned above? And yes the Firmware Update for the Rang III is 33 Seconds, how did you know or was this coincidence? thanks.

I've sent the V3.4 file from MIDI-Bar to MIDI-Tools through MIDI-Yoke. 1264 messages have a lenght of 0x3F = 63, last message 0x3A = 58. One system exclusive message is F0 00 1F 7F 0F 01 ... F7. The duration of the .mid file 00:33 is displayed in MIDI-Bar. You could of course slow down the tempo in a sequencer. Good to hear it has worked! http://mountainutilities.eu/miditools
