Transferring Kawai K1 patches

Hi, New member here. I have a K1 synth that I bought in 1989. I'd like to change the original internal 2032 coin batt. The synth still functions partially as some of the original patches have vanished. There are still a bout 1/2 of them left. I would like to save those on my windows Vista laptop before I change the battery, because a few of them are useful for me in my band. I don't want to risk losing everything changing the battery. Then I could load the original patches from the Kawai website, if I can get this to work. I've downloaded MIDI OX, got a Agptek (cheap) midi interface on ebay. I have the original K1 manual. I saw a video on youtube by Demonic Sweaters and he made this task look quite simple. I've done what he said but I'm having no luck so far. Anyone out there who could guide me in the right direction? Thanks

I've just started this myself, but I have successfully saved (I have a K4) and downloaded complete system (.sysex) files for all banks at a time. Just open midiox and in the tool bar click view, sysex, then click the command window title and click send/ receive and you can save everything as a whole to a file of your choice on your pc. The small window that opens up telling you what is happening won't complete if you don't have system exclusive receive on, channel 1, (under system rcv) and transmit program on, transmit channel 1 (under system trs) on the actual keyboard interface. Once that is complete you will have a tab to click 'Done'. I am waiting on my new firmware chip to arrive in the mail before I accomplish more with mine. You have to pull the battery and replace after doing that also. Good Luck !

Thanks. What interface did you use? I'm waiting to receive a better quality interface. I'll give your suggestions a try at that time.
