Alesis DM10 error

Hey everyone, I tried to hook my Alesis DM10 up to my computer yesterday, using the USB cable. The DM10 registers and installs (seen in my devices), and I can even see it in MIDI-OX: So far, so good. Then I try to select the input and output device, but it gives me an "undefined external error" Things to note: I've followed the official ALESIS settings to make sure my DM10 is exporting, as also described in this thread: http://www.midiox.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=query;action=display;nu m=1397176467;start=2#2 It seems it is still seen as both an input and an output device, and I cannot seem to disable it as an output device. In the end I hope to map the midi signal from a drum-hit to a keyboard key so I can play some rockband-like games. No matter what output device I try to connect it to, I get this error: http://imgur.com/a/NDk0h Anybody got any idea what I'm doing wrong? Help much appreciated! Kind regards, Ingmar

Hi Ingmar not quite sure whats going on. What OS are you using? What happens when you open the Options / Midi Devices... dialog and select the DM10 in both the Input and Output window? All the best Royce

Hey Royce! I'm using windows 10, 32bit. When I select them as both input and output device I get that same error as on the screenshot, I've tried all options. I've borrowed a different USB cable and going to use a different computer tonight, trying to reduce the variables of this problem . Alternatively the DM10 also has a "MIDI out" instead of USB, I could also use that, that would at least fix the "both input and output" issue (and those cables are cheap enough to try anyway). Thanks for taking the time to respond!

Be careful of those cheap Midi interfaces. Many people complained about problems using them so I bought one and it was rubbish. Perhaps there are various versions and some are OK, but they all seem to have trouble with sysex. So save yourself the heartache and buy a Roland or Korg or Yamaha or Midisoprt. Anything that comes with its own driver CD. Midi is hard enough without hardware problems. People are reporting a lot of Midi problems with Win10 (I'm happy to stick with Win7 64). Have a search through the messages here for Win10 stuff. Are they the correct Win10 Midi drivers? It might be worth having a look at Microsoft's forums to see if there is more info about Win10 and Midi All the best Royce

Hey there! The combination of a different USB cable and different computer Win10 64bit did the trick, it's working! Thanks for your replies!
