Sysex Backup Failing Under Windows 10 64 bit

Hello and happy to be here. I have been using MIDI-OX for about a year, and I love it - it's just what I need - and in January, I used it successfully to back up my Voodoo Labs Ground Control Pro - all 200 patches including their names - and that was brilliant - and, I was able to restore stored patch sets too - so it's the perfect tool. I did have some issues, but I just wrote my own procedure, and it would work most times - sometimes, it wouldn't, but I just persevered - and it worked pretty well. Not so now - several months have passed, and I decided to completely rebuild the Ground Control, which I have now done - I have altered over 100 of the 200 patches, and now I want to make a backup of this "new" configuration that took many, many manhours to build. However - SYSEX is failing, no matter what I try - whenever I ask MIDI-OX to listen for the incoming MIDI message - nothing happens, and no Bytes count up - the message is definitely sending from the Ground Control, but MIDI-OX is not seeing it. I tried running MIDI-OX as administrator, but it made no difference - again, no Bytes received. Everything is as it was in January - same connections, same MIDI device (I have a single channel MIO device, which seems pretty reliable) but now, thanks to Windows 10 I believe, I can no longer receive from the Ground Control - which is not good, as my hard work and tedious naming, all remains unsafe, not backed up, despite a few days of trying. What do I have to do, to convince MIDI-OK to "Listen" for an incoming MIDI message, so I can "save as" a file, like I did back in January?? Please help, this is driving me crazy...I just can't get it to perform as it used to. Thanks Dave

Hi Dave quick starting question. Options /Midi Filter... - check that Display SysEx messages in Monitors is checked. Options/Data Mapping... - Turn Map On Later is unchecked With the Input Monitor window open (and DON'T View/Sysex in MidiOx), can you see sysex data coming in when you dump it? All the best Royce

Hello Royce I checked the settings, and didnt need to change either one - they were already set per your instructions. Then, with the input monitor open, but NOT the SYSEX window, i sent the data, and the monitor showed nothing. Back in January, same exact device, same exact set up, i could watch the bytes flow in, and was able to save it as a file...a valid backup, which i also later tested as a restore, and it worked perfectly. The only thing that has changed since i last did this successfully...was Windows 10. Note: i am pretty sure the MIO MIDI Device is working, because at the bottom of the output monitor, I can see 1 Output Device and 1 Input Device so that would seem to indicate that it sees the device. I hope this info will help you ?? Let me know if you want me to try anything else. Thanks so much for your prompt reply and for your help, i truly appreciate it because i am really new to Sysex and I have only the barest understanding of it. All the best Dave pureambient

Hello Sonus & Everyone Thank you for the screen shot suggesting the Compatibilty settings - I had already tried the Compatibility Troubleshooter, but I tried it today under several different settings. The "real setting" I should have used would be "Windows 7" - that is the Windows that MIDI-OX "used to work in". I tried it with Win 7 compatibility, I then tried it with XP SP3 compatibility, and I tried it with "I don't know" and it chose Win 7 again. So after multiple attempts with different settings - the net result is this: NO bytes received, NO activity on the Input Monitor at any point in time during the last several days, no activities on the Input Activity monitor either - every time I send the info from the pedal, MIDI-OX's reaction is - no reaction whatsoever, silence, quiet, nothing. I am literally back to square one, this should be such a simple thing to do, to xmt the contents of my MIDI device and receive those contents with MIDI-OX - but it is simply not working, and I just have no idea why. So - now what might I try ?? Any ideas ?? Please help, I really want to back up this pedal soon, I have mega-hours of work in it that I don't want to lose...you know how it is. Thanks everyone! Dave

Hi Just to answer your question, yes, MIO in is connected to MIDI out of Ground Control. That is how it was connected when it worked back in January on Windows 7. But why...doesn't changing it to Win 7 Compatibility, make it work again? And is that it, we are just giving up on MIDI-OX ever working on my machine? Just wondering, I mean, I can certainly try a different application but it does seem a shame, as I have this one installed and it did used to work perfectly. I've downloaded C6 now...but... In any case, I very much appreciate the help. I am not going to give up on MIDI-OX just yet. Thanks Dave
