monitoring in AND output

Dear forum

This may be pretty obvious, but I cannot find it:

I have software to program and monitor my guitar multi-effect floorboard. It is controlled by sysex midi messages. I´d like to see what is going on, so I attached the board, started MIDIOX and the software that controls the floorboard. I have contact, I can see messages coming in.

However, I do not see any messages going out. The floorboard reacts, I can see that with some LED´s I can toggle, but I never see any messages in MIDIOX that controls this. I can program the floorboard as normal, and every time the floorboard sends somehing back I can monitor that, but never the control messages from my software (that runs on the same computer as MIDIOX).

From MIDIOX I can send the Universal Device Inquiry.syx
F0 7E 7F 06 01 F7

That is shown in the monitor as well as the answer of the device. So there is no hickup in the wiring or anything.

How can I monitor sysex messages that goes out to the midi device?

Thanks
Arjen

Hi Arjen
you need to download and install MidiYoke from the same page that you got MidiOx from.
MidiYoke is a Midi driver, but doesn't do anything, it just acts like a software "Midi cable".

So when it is installed, go to Options / Midi Devices in MidiOx and select Midi Yoke 1
On the MidiOx Midi Routing page connect MidiYoke 1, on the left side, to your Midi interface on the right side that is connected to the Guitar FX .

In your software, change the Midi output device to "MidiYoke 1".

Now when the software sends out Midi it will be displayed in the Monitor In window in MidiOx, as well as being sent to your guitar FX

Guitar Software -> MidiYoke 1 -> MidiOx -> Midi Interface to Guitar FX.

To allow sysex to pass though the routing, make sure the SYX in the toolbar at the bottom border of MidiOx is selected by clicking on it.
If you change any of the routing you will have to click this SYX to deselect then again to reselect it (a bit of a bug I think)

All the best
Royce

Thank you for your answer, seems pretty straightforward. Alas, not working with my linux ubuntu operating system.

I´ll see whether I have a windows copy somewhere......

Just in case...
You don't mention it it , but if you are not getting any display of data in the Monitor IN window (View / Input Monitor...) right click in the window and in the menu that appears check that it says STOP DISPLAY and not START DISPLAY. Click it if it does.
