Stuck- some missing monitor data

I have a Yamaha DGX305 connected via USB- for both input and output. I have Port Routing showing 2 connections- Yamaha In to Yamaha Out as well as MIDI-OX Event to Yamaha Out. Under MIDI Devices, the Yamaha is selected under Inputs and Outputs and "Automatically attach inputs to outputs" is selected. Nothing is selected under Port Mapping.

Both Monitor In and Out show a ton of system messages flying by, so I filtered out F8 and FE. REC is on in the bottom right of the screen. When I press a Yamaha key, I do not get a Note On/Off message on either input or output. But-

1. If I press the Sustain pedal, a Control Change appears on both input and output monitors.
2. If I change a program setting, a Program Change appears on both monitors.
3. If I turn on the MIDI-OX "Keyboard", I get Note On/Off data on the Output monitor.

Any suggestions on why I don't see any Note data from my synth? I have down the power on/off routine as well as reinstalled MIDI-OX.

Hi
FE is active sensing - a midi 'pulse' so the devices know they are still connected
F8 is Midi clock - used to synchronize connected devices.
Both can usually be turned off on the synth or, as you have done, filtered in MidiOx

As far as your Note On problem it could be either your keyboard (will it play another synth connected directly with a  Midi cable?)
or have a look at Options / Midi Filter and make sure it is not filtered there.

If that isn't it, have a look in the Options / Data Mapping.
There is a checkbox next to the OK button "Turn Map On"  uncheck it if it is checked.

All the best

Thanks for the suggestions.

Notes On/Off are not being filtered, only the F8 and FE messages. And nothing is selected in the Data Mapping screen. I also reloaded the Yamaha driver- but still missing any note data!

I don't have another midi device- any other idea?

Its strange that the CC and PC messages are coming through fine. Could the notes problem be a timing issue?

Have a look at page 81 of the manual and set PC mode to PC2.
This sets keyboard to OUT but turns off LOCAL (meaning the sound will only play from Midi coming in, not the keyboard)
Try this and see if you can see the Note On data in MidiOx.

As it seems that LOCAL can be independently set (page 79) , perhaps you can set PC2 then turn Local back on.

Let me know how you get on.

Thanks again.

There are 3 controllable variables- Local, External Clock and Keyboard. The PC Off, PC1 and PC2 setting pre-selects 3 stored variations of the above variables. If you consider each of the 3 three variables could be on or off, there are in fact 8 choices. I ran through all 8 and still could not get any Note data.

I did find a work around- using another piece of freeware and with the PC2 setting, I do now see all data being transmitted. So solution found- but unfortunately not with MIDI-OX.

Thanks- great support!
