Midi-USB cable broken or synthesizer?

Hey I have a Roland E-35 intelligent Synth, and a Docooler Hifing midi-usb cable.  The problem seems to be that I can play piano sounds just fine when on the keyboard itself however it will not register any notes played into my DAW(Reaper).  Running Midiox has shown that whenever I am imputing notes it is showing random messages entirely.  These range from “Note on”(correct or incorrect notes), red “Pitch bend” messages, and purple “instrument” and various messages.  It this a result in my keyboard not processing the right midi notes out? Or is it time for a new usb cable? Like I said, piano part works great just can’t get the midi notes to a computer.

Hi
That sort or garbed Midi data often occurs with damaged Midi cables.
You could take your E-35 to a mates place and check with his Midi interface and a PC with MidiOx or a music shop might help.
But the best way to sort it out is to borrow a working Midi Interface and connect it between the E-35 and you computer.
If that works then the interface or the attached cables are faulty.

Sadly we hear of a lot of problems that arise from single Midi Interfaces - especially the cheap silver cabled ones often found on eBay.
I have not used or heard the brand you have, but generally, if you can afford it, an interface from the well known brands such as Roland, Yamaha, Korg, M-Audio (MidiSport)  even the Behringer ones seem OK, will save you a lot of heart ache and frustration.

Let me know how you get on.

Best of luck
Royce
