MIDI OX as Sysex librarian?

Hi -

I'm not too deep yet into MIDI OX, I've used it really just as a MIDI scope when troubleshooting simple problems.  Can MIDI OX be used as a generic SYSEX librarian?  I have bunch of synth patch banks I would like to save as SYSEX files - I don't need to edit them, I just need to store them.  Can MIDI OX do this?  I don't see any specific mention of this in the docs.

Thanks!

Hi Tom,
MidiOx loads and saves sysex very well.

The trap for the unwary is that the sysex data is sent out on the 'MIDI-OX Event Port' and so you need to connect that port to you synth.

You will see the 'MIDI-OX Event Port' on the MIDI Port Routing window down the bottom on the left.
Drag a connection to the Midi port that is connected to the synth.
Cycle the 'enable sysex transmission', SYX button in the toolbar and finish by leaving it ON

That is, de-select and select (Click) the SYX in the tool bar on the bottom right of the full MidiOx window so it is left  highlighted.
(sometimes it needs it and sometimes not, so I just do this every time I change the routing to make sure)

Menu  View/SysEx.. to bring up the sysex dialog
In the Sysex View dialog click File/Send Sysex File and then OK (or double click).
The data from the file should display in the Midi Output window.

To save a sysex dump from the synth...
In the sysex dialog menu select Sysex/Configure and make sure "Save Dump directly..." is selected and click OK.
In the sysex dialog menu select Sysex/Receive Manual dump.
It will bring up a 'Save As' dialog for you to select a directory and file name.
Once you click Save a Sysex Receive dialog appears and any sysex that comes in is saved to the file so ...
select a manual data dump from the synth and start it going.

You should see the 'Bytes Received' count increase.
When it stops click OK and the completed sysex file will be fully saved on your drive.

Hope that helps
Royce
