Route MIDI to RS-232?

Hi, MIDI-OX rules on my weird HardSID rig. Now I'm wondering if I can use it for something else: I have a device (DPS TBC-IV) which accepts MIDI commands over an RS-232 interface. I believe this is a fairly common technique in the world of video automation. I am wondering if MIDI-OX can play a role in routing MIDI to this device over my PC's RS-232 port. If so, it would be great to be able to use a null-modem cable from my PC's RS-232 port to the necessary DIN-9 to DB9 or DB25 adapter on the TBC-IV. Thanks, unrepentant hobbyist

Hi, MidiOx can only use devices that 'say' they are Midi devices. Serial port drivers don't normally do this. You could probably write the MidiOx script to do the job (check menu Help then Contents then the last entry 'Scripting) There was a COM port driver from Korg that works called "Midi Driver PCIF-NT for Windows NT/2000/XP", but it was for WinXP and the link I had has changed. My only other suggestion is that there is a way to use BOME Midi Translator https://www.bome.com/support/kb/new-tutorial-convert-serial-port-to-midi -with-bome-midi-translator-pro Hope that helps Royce

| Thanks for your suggestions, Royce. The computer I'm using is an odd one, still running Windows 98 SE, so old things like this Korg driver (if I can find it) are not out of the question. Scripting sounds cool & fun too. Ah, here's the driver: https://www.korg.com/us/support/download/driver/1/283/3304/ The only further catch would be that the TBC-IV uses SysEx. So there could be issues if the various components involved are dodgy when it comes to passing SysEx along, as I know some devices/drivers can be. That's why I can't use, for example, this Arduino-related tool: https://www.spikenzielabs.com/learn/serial_midi.html Thanks again, hopeful forum poster
