I envision a scren sort of like a Logic environment- looks like a toy- IN ports on one side, OUT ports on the other- simply drag virtual cables across to create the desired routing! Then you can just look at it like you would your hardware and see where the cables went to- Thanks! Cliff

I would like to throw in my support of this idea, too. I would also wish to add boxes in between to represent processors for mapping purposes. On any box, you could double-click to specify parameters for the "innards". For example, Input and Output boxes could have their port designations, and boxes in between could use mapping language similar to what is used now. On the subject, this GUI concept could also serve as a neat way to specify multiple input-output relationships for ports, which could take you closer to being able to encapsulate everything (all port connections and maps) into one instance of MIDI-OX. This single-instance capability has been discussed elsewhere on this forum as a wish item. Granted, for larger setups the graphic page could get complex and hard to read, which would defeat its purpose. One way to help this would be to organize the denser connections into groups, say, into multiple tabbed pages, similar to what is done in MS Excel. Connections could then cross pages by using dedicated link boxes. This could also help to visually isolate disjoint (separated) portions of the graphs, such as things only involving one pair of ports at a time. I don't know if anyone has mentioned jMax from IRCAM on this forum, but it is perhaps the extreme of where this idea could go. I would not wish on you to have to duplicate what has already been accomplished there, but it could serve as a guide for creating a GUI for ports and maps.

I don't know really although I worry about anything TOO graphically when it comes to my music boots. Wouldn't want to see the OX get bloated and start causing problems. it's worth the think thru as it is now as NOTHING else is anywhere near as good. best wishes twerp
