Title: Moving desktop layout to another pc
Post by Lewis Williams on Nov 22nd, 2008, 4:02am
I like to move my desktop layout from pc to pc. If the layout was stored in a file instead of a registry key this would be a lot easier. It would also be easier to name and save old layouts. Currently I have to use regedit, find the joconnell key export it, rename the .reg file, save it somewhere, later import the registry key, and then desktop restore in order to move my desktop. Pretty cumbersome.

If you download the latest version you will see that there is an option in the 'Custom Save Restore' to save or restore the configuration to a file.

Unfortunately I have disabled my primary xp os partition so that I cannot install the new DISR prog, but can still regedit export the old prog layout.

If I re-install xp & copy over the backed up desktop folder can I then install the new DISR prog, delete the hk_users\s-...\layout 1024 x 768 sub-key & replace/import it with the old ?

Or would I use the 'custom restore' feature ?

Thank you for your great hair retention assisting software!

It would probably work if all the same programs are installed, and their icons visible on the screen.
