I had screen freeze had to kill pc with power off. On reboot desktop was scrambled, restored desktop ok'

However I forgot that I had created 2 new folder which I need, I cannot find them with recovery software.

My questions are:-

A) what happens to folders like that when you restore, are they deleted
B) where does desktop store the layout info, perhaps I can find the old version with recovery software

A) Desktop Layouts are NOT saved in a file or folder normally.
B) Desktop Layouts are usually stored in the registry at:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JOConnell\DeskTop
