Title: Different Installation Problem Post by marnold on Jun 11th, 2004, 10:02pm I'm having difficulty getting MIDI-OX to install on an ancient Win95 PC. It's a Gateway P5-75 with a whopping 8M of RAM. This version of Win95 has not been updated except for Y2K issues. I downloaded and installed the updated Windows Installer. When the MIDI-OX installer gets near the end, I get this error message in a pop-up window: "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor." I got the same copy to install just fine on my slightly less ancient Win98 box at home. Ideas? |

Title: Re: Different Installation Problem Post by Jamie OConnell on Jun 12th, 2004, 11:51am I don't believe that the Windows installer is compatible with Win95. I have even less confidence that MIDI-OX is still compatible with Windows 95. You could zip up your 98 install (MIDIOX folder and subdirs) and copy it to the 95 machine, and it might work, but no promises. |

Title: Re: Different Installation Problem Post by Jamie OConnell on Jun 12th, 2004, 11:58am We have been using the Windows installer since about the year 2001. |

Title: Re: Different Installation Problem Post by marnold on Jun 12th, 2004, 12:10pm Hmmm. The Microsoft site indicates that the Windows Installer binary is compatible with Win95. Whether it is wiht MIDI-OX is another question, I suppose. |

Title: Re: Different Installation Problem Post by Jamie OConnell on Jun 12th, 2004, 12:14pm No. If it really is compatible then it should work, but I do seem to recall that version 2 of the Windows installer is NOT compatible. MIDI-OX uses the .NET Windows installer program, but does not do anything really fancy with it. MS dropped support for Windows 95 many years ago. You're really asking for trouble trying to use any modern applications with Win 95 in my opinion. Why not install at least Win 98 SE? I don't intend to pursue this. We no longer support Win 95. Period. |

Title: Re: Different Installation Problem Post by marnold on Jun 12th, 2004, 12:48pm That's fine. I understand entirely. We will hopefully be getting a new computer soon which should render this discussion moot. However, please change the description of MIDI-OX on the front page and elsewhere to indicate that it is no longer a Win95 application. |

Title: Re: Different Installation Problem Post by Jamie OConnell on Jun 13th, 2004, 3:23pm I'll do one better than that... i have re-uploaded a version that uses the old installer, 6.2. You can get it from the download page, or here: MIDI-OX 6.2 (http://www.midiox.com/zip/midiox620.exe). I would strongly advise against attempting installation of this on Win 2000 or Win XP. |

Title: Re: Different Installation Problem Post by marnold on Jul 6th, 2004, 10:26am I just wanted to post a follow-up here. The 6.2 version installed on Windows 95 just fine. After several days of trying to figure out how to get everything working, I managed to get both MIDI-OX and MIDI-Yoke doing exactly what I wanted. Thanks for your help! |

Title: Re: Different Installation Problem Post by Jamie OConnell on Jul 10th, 2004, 2:14pm Great. Thanks for the followup. I'll keep version 6.2 permanently available for Win 95. |
