Title: Newbie, All is well except.... Post by tonyg on Feb 12th, 2005, 6:54pm Running XP Pro. Downloaded MIDIOX no problem. Program opens up and I have set the devices (M-Audio Midi Sport 2X2), selected "pass sysex", selected "start monitoring midi data". I am now assuming things should work? I have selected both "Midi Port Activity" and "Midi Status" expecting to start seeing things in the way of midi activity. I am playing back a file from Cubase as a test. What have I forgotten? What needs to be set up yet? Thanks in Advance Tony G http://www.capcan.com/tonyg.htm |

Title: Re: Newbie, Update...Things are getting better! Post by tonyg on Feb 12th, 2005, 8:37pm After spending a little more time with the new program.....MIDIOX is definately recognizing and working with my studio setup. When playing any keyboard into the computer I am seeing "port activity" and data in the "raw input data" and "main output monitor" windows. I am not seeing anything however in the "midi status" window. I would also like to monitor the midi output of the sequencing program (Cubase) in the "port activity" window and all other windows if possible. How can I see the output of Cubase in all the windows mentioned and what am I doing that isn't allowing me to see anything in the "midi status" window? TIA Tony G http://www.capcan.com/tonyg.htm |

And where are you sending the MIDI events? And is MIDI OX in the data path? If you're going Cubase [MIDI Out] -> [MIDI In] Synth then you're not passing the data through MIDI OX. MIDI OX isn't mystical and can't see the data unless you actually give it the data. The set up for monitoring is Cubase [MIDI Out (yoke)] -> [MIDI In (yoke)] MIDI OX [MIDI Out] -> [MIDI In] Synth where the "(yoke)" means using a MIDI Yoke junction output or input port. |

Title: Re: Newbie, All is well except.... Post by tonyg on Mar 24th, 2005, 8:41pm Thnaks Peter for the response. I think I understand what you are saying. Yes, my Cubase output will have to go through MIDIOX before I'll see any midi port activity, and this is done using MIDIYoke. Right? I downloaded midiyoke which is simply a driver if I understand correctly. I then dragged the driver into the Cubase program folder. Was this the correct thing to do? To re-cap my original question; When playing back midi events from my Cubase sequencing program, I simply want to monitor the midi events coming out of the MidiSport 2x2 before reaching all the instruments. Title: Re: Newbie, All is well except.... Post by Peter L Jones on Mar 25th, 2005, 4:16am MIDI Yoke is a windows device driver - nothing Cubase needs in its program folder. Follow the MIDI Yoke install instructions on the website. After rebooting, you'll have eight "MIDI Yoke Junction" (virtual) MIDI Ports. When you send data to Yoke 1 Out, that data is available to read at Yoke 1 In, as if it had gone out, down a MIDI cable and come back in to your PC. The MIDI device driver supplied with your 2x2 (almost certainly) allows only one process to open a MIDI port. That means if you want to read the MIDI events and display them (like MIDI OX does), no other program can get those events. MIDI OX, however, will quite happily write the events it reads to a MIDI Out port. That's where MIDI Yoke comes in. MIDI OX reads from the physical MIDI In port. Then it does whatever you're using it for (display here). Then you set up MIDI OX to write to a MIDI Yoke Out. The events MIDI OX reads are then available on the "other end" of the MIDI Yoke Junction. So in Cubase, rather than trying to open the 2x2 for a second time and failing, you open the MIDI Yoke In. |

Title: Re: Newbie, All is well except.... Post by Jamie OConnell on Mar 28th, 2005, 12:49am I recommend you delete any extra copies of myokent.dll that might be on your machine -- it should ONLY be in the System32 folder, and placed there by the installer. Because of it's nature as a user-mode DLL, it can be inadvertently loaded from another folder and will malfunction if it is. Please remove the copy from the Cubase folder. |
