Title: Korg M-1 sysex download problem... Post by rrobbit on Jul 20th, 2005, 8:59pm Hi... When the internal battery on my Korg M-1 expired, it took all my factory pre-sets with it. I was unaware that there WAS a battery in the unit...and, of course, too brain-dead to back up the factory settings. Korg UK E-mailed me the m1preld.syx files and Midioxse.exe. Midiox installed well, loaded the .syx file, but fails to download to the Korg. I go into the M-1 through the Global button, click the 5 and 6 buttons, scroll to the appropriate M-1 pages, enable the right things, "un-protect" the memory, select the 100/100 memory allocation, and then "Send sysex." The load indicator works for about half of its normal excursion, stops and then the error message appears telling me it's transmitting data, try again later. I wait...and wait ...and wait. If I try again, I get the blue screen of death. I have tried just about every permutation of M-1 instructions, and also Freeloader and Wm-1...nothing works. I have a new P4 3.0 gig CPU, 2 gig RAM, Asus MOBO, Midiman 2 X 2 on a USB hub...and use Cakewalk 2004. OS is Win 2000 Pro. I can record MIDI, play back MIDI, record audio, play back audio...but I can't stuff m1preld.syx back into my crusty old Korg. I bought the unit in 1988, have tons of MIDI files, but they're useless without the factory pre-sets. I know the problem must be me...something I'm doing, or NOT doing. I could use a little direction...the Midiox program looks GREAT...and I do miss the old Korg. One does get used to those old jobbies... Thanks for listening. Rob |

Title: Re: Korg M-1 sysex download problem... Post by Jamie OConnell on Aug 4th, 2005, 1:35pm Try inserting delays in the SysEx configure box. See the FAQ or help file for details. |

Title: Re: Korg M-1 sysex download problem... Post by innishmore on Jan 13th, 2007, 2:19pm Hi Ive got the same problem as you rrobit, Did you manage to sort it? Title: Re: Korg M-1 sysex download problem... Post by Jerry Jorgenrud on Jan 14th, 2007, 9:26am The led flashing is most likely active sensing from the M1. When you want to load in a largish sysex like the factory defaults, I would try disconnecting the MIDI cable that is attached to the MIDI output of the M1 and see if that lets you load the sysex without problems. If it still doesn't work you might need to fiddle with the sysex buffer sizes, number, and/or delay. You can get to those settings from the sysex window menu under sysex cofigure. I would try smaller sized buffers, 250 or less, and a larger number of them, say as high as 200 maybe, and tick the delay between buffers box anf try 10 or 20 or so. It's just that the M1 needs time to process the data and we're trying to give it that little extra time it needs. |

Title: Re: Korg M-1 sysex download problem... Post by Matt_Harris on Jan 27th, 2009, 9:39am Hi there! Basically I bought a second hand (dusty!) Korg M1 synth yesterday in original box, original manual, great internal and external condition, but have thus far failed miserably to get any joy out of it! Turned on synth and the expected "INIT" was apparent on all settings. The guy I bought it from said that the last time he used it was about a year ago and gave up on using it as the internal battery died on him and he didnt have a clue on how to replace it! Anyway, I did the mandatory research, downloaded the Sysex Library for my macOSX and incase that didnt work I also downloaded MIDI-OX for my PC. Finally grabbed the Factory preset sysex file from the KORG site. Now then, battery replaced....not a problem at all. Hooked up the MIDI cables to the synth from my Lexicon Omega interface. Turned the M1 on and enabled the synth to receive MIDI SYSEX. Everything enabled. Transfered Sysex file to M1 with Sysex Library with default speed.....No success. Attempted again with speed turned right down to 5% and now the result was different. All the patches are correctly displayed but the sound is horrendous! The keys aren't corresponding to the patch name, and are totally random...Even random volume fluctuations. Awful. I reset the synth and tried with the PC using MIDI-OX exactly the same result. Even changed the midi cables over just incase. Now i am right out of ideas. And followed the above suggestions :( I don't have a ROM card or anything like that so thats out. Help? Even some inspiration would be grateful! Matt :-/ |
